Profile Description:

Acacia was admitted to practice in 2011 in Trinidad and Tobago and joined the firm in December 2023 as an Associate in the Property and Estates Department.

Acacia has had legal training and experience across three jurisdictions namely:
  • Guyana
  • She began her legal career at the Guyana Legal Aid Clinic (then known as the Georgetown Legal Aid Clinic) before journeying to Trinidad and Tobago to complete studies at the Hugh Wooding Law School. At the Clinic she was trained in family matters, domestic violence applications and applications for Letters of Administration.
  • Antigua & Barbuda
  • Her legal internship in Antigua and Barbuda exposed her to employment law, running down actions and debt recovery for corporate clients. For some years she continued providing legal research and drafting services to a Law office in Antigua and Barbuda in their contentious probate matters, land matters and negligence claims.

  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • In 2013 Acacia was appointed in-house Legal Officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Mortgage Finance Company Ltd. For four (4) years she supported the Chief Operating Officer/ Company Secretary while providing legal advisory services to the Management of TTMF. She was also appointed Assistant Compliance Officer. Acacia gave support to the mortgage officers in understanding the effect of laws and legal language related to the buying, selling and mortgaging of properties.

    In 2018 and for five (5) years, her land law skills were further honed by giving legal support to the administration of state agricultural lands under a State Enterprise. This included preparation of sub leases and variation of leasehold covenants.

    In her own private practice, Acacia has worked with small businesses supporting them in the formation of companies, compliance with anti-money laundering laws, preparation of contracts and leases. Her practise also included the preparation of wills and applications for Probate and other Grants in the estates of Deceased persons.

    At present, she conducts property transactions from start to finish including the preparation of the Agreement of Sale through investigating and reading of title, to the production of variations instruments such as Conveyances/Transfers, Agreements for Sale, Assignments, Mortgages, Deeds of Release and Memoranda of Discharge. She engages with clients ensuring they are kept up to date, discussing and giving advice pertaining to their transactions. She also has conduct of Chattel Mortgage and Mortgage Bills of Sale transactions, preparation of Wills and Applications for Grants of Representation in the estates of deceased persons.
