The Dispute Resolution Service Line comprises of two (2)Partners and two (2)Associates in its Port of Spain Office, and two (2)Associates in its San Fernando Office. The Department is headed in its Port of Spain Office by Ms. Alana Bissessar, a Litigation Attorney of over 23 years’ experience, and in its San Fernando Office by Nalini Jaggernauth a Litigation Attorney of over 7 years’ experience.
Our clientele includes a wide cross section of the island’s major insurance companies, the Regional Health Authorities and other state owned bodies, banking institutions, as well as a host of privately owned companies.
The Attorneys in this Service Line function in the capacity of Instructing Attorneys and have care and conduct of a multitude of civil matters which include but are not limited to motor vehicular actions, negligence including medical negligence, judicial review, administrative law, constitutional law, construction law, commercial and corporate finance litigation, trust matters, fraud matters, litigious conveyancing and succession actions, insurance claims, defamation matters and industrial relations and human resource disputes and issues. The Attorneys have considerable experience in conducting legal research, drafting pleadings, preparing procedural documents and witness statements and preparing opinions on liability, evidence and quantum. They also have extensive experience in appearing at and/or with Counsel at Case Management Conferences, Pre-Trial Reviews, Trials and Appeals at the Court of Appeal and have, on numerous occasions, Instructed Senior Council (locally) and Queens Counsel (internationally), as well as Privy Council agents in the conduct of Appeals at the Privy Council. Further, the Attorneys have a breadth of experience in instructing Counsel in mediations and arbitrations both locally and at the International Court of Arbitration.
Our Dispute Resolution Department also benefits from the specialised knowledge and vast expertise of the Attorneys in our firm’s other Service Lines, each of whom are available to, and readily provide, advice on issues which straddle the disciplinary borders.
